In honor of the release of the film version of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, I feel it's appropriate to resurrect a conversation between Matt and me that was featured in this post, from July 2005, when the book was released.
BuckSlacker83: I wonder if critics had to stay up and read it all BuckSlacker83: so they could talk about it ShiftyEyedDogg: the coughy industry loves Harry Potter ShiftyEyedDogg: JK ROWLING: I make them longer because of my secret deal with Starbucks BuckSlacker83: harry potter + coughy? ShiftyEyedDogg: HARRY POTTER: This Starbucks Frappuccino is delicious! in a product placement comment ShiftyEyedDogg: STARBUCKS: This beverage tastes like magic and spectacles BuckSlacker83: hahaha BuckSlacker83: HERMIONE: Now give me some Thermasilk (tm) for this rat's nest I call hair!
It just occurred to me, four million hours later, that the original post is exactly four years old today. Weeeeird.

When I graduated from USC in 2007, my parents bought me a MacBook Pro. It was my first Mac, and I fell in love. I do not intend on ever going back to the PC lifestyle. However, I feel like I have beaten the shit out of this thing. I bring it to work everyday, I haul it all over the place, I use it constantly. It's been very good to me, but it's been getting weird. The CD drive is having issues (as in, can't read discs), I've been getting these "kernel panic" messages that require me to restart, and it's generally much slower than it used to be. I don't have a lot of crap--not even media files like music or videos, really--on this computer. But it feels "old" lately.

Now, it seems that, every two years, I get the itch for a new computer. I just like them to feel new-ish and fast and slick. So perhaps I'm projecting. And I'm sure I could take this thing into the Apple store, have the CD drive fixed, have it fixed up, blah blah. But I kind of just really want a new computer, too. And I have the money. I'm thinking one of the new 13-inch MacBook Pros. I have a 15-inch right now, but I could totally do with the 13.
Thoughts, anyone? brenden? Encouragement or discouragement?

Apparently declaring my wishes in public makes them come true, or at least aids the process along. When I wished for Killers tickets, No Doubt tickets, and sunglasses in an LJ post, I got 'em. That's right:
No Doubt, August 2nd, Irvine (courtesy of a new work friend who just happened to have an extra ticket)
and
The Killers, September 25th, Boise (which also provides me with a nice excuse to book a trip to visit Kelsey)
I think I'm going on the hunt for Pink and/or Kelly Clarkson tickets next...

The Veronicas - "Take Me on the Floor" |

Pro: I got to catch up with USC friends on Friday night and then wound up on an impromptu sober outing to Popstarz. Not needing to drink to enjoy your friends + no hangover the next day = brilliant.
Con: Without alcohol to help me pass out, I didn't fall asleep until after 4. And, of course, slept fitfully and woke up at 7.
Pro: I finally cracked and bought those sunglasses I couldn't stop thinking about.
Con: I couldn't make up my mind, so I bought them in black and tortoise. Unfortunately, they cost money.
Pro: I just got a nice residual check.
Con: It's for more money than I'll make doing my actual job over the next month.
Pro: None of my cons are that bad. And life is sort of beautiful lately.
